Burley Lodge Celebrates Five More Years of Volunteering

Burley Lodge Opportunities to Relaunch in April 2012

Volunteers at the volunteer celebration in October. Now we can look forward to another five years of volunteering in Burley and Hyde Park.

The Burley Lodge Centre is delighted to announce that it has been successful in its bid to continue its volunteering and community development project for another five years The Big Lottery Fund award of £470,000 from the Reaching Communities programme will support community volunteering in Burley and Hyde Park until 2017.

Needless to say volunteers and staff are absolutely overjoyed at this news. Taira Kayani, CEO of Burley Lodge Centre, has said that she is “delighted” that this work will continue. “This is a big boost to people from our locality and across Leeds. We find that local people may not know their neighbours and a project like this gives people a chance to give their time to support charitable and community work.”

In addition to engaging local volunteers the funding will support new programmes for community activities and leadership training.

“This will make a real difference to over 1600 local people, especially toyoung people in the area”, said Mrs Kayani. “Our aim is to encourage people to get involved and give their time. We’ve been offering people the chance to come together and spend time with each other for over 28 years. We know that doing this has lots of positive benefits; people feel safer and less isolated in their homes; they build up their confidence and skills, which benefits young people, children and families both now and in the future.”

She also thanked the efforts of volunteers both past and present, praising the “dedication and commitment of community volunteers that helped to make this bid a success”

Volunteering staff can’t wait to get going on this project but will spend the next three months preparing and recruiting in order to ensure that we deliver the volunteer support that our local community demands and deserves.
